SPECIAL GREYHOUND REMEMBRANCE EVENT
Belle Vue Stadium, Manchester, Saturday, 6pm Greyhound Action supporters will be holding a special remembrance event outside Belle Vue Stadium in Manchester at 6pm this Saturday (July 24th), followed by a demo/leafletting to coincide with a greyhound race meeting taking place there. The event is particularly significant, as Saturday is the 84th anniversary of when commercial greyhound racing began in Britain, at Belle Vue Stadium, on July 24th 1926. It coincides with Greyhound Remembrance Weekend, which is held every year in memory of all the dogs who have suffered and died because of the British greyhound racing industry. Please do your best to attend, especially if you live in or near the Manchester area, as the local media are expected to be there to take photos etc. The organisers have requested that people taking part should dress in black (if possible) and bring some flowers to lay outside the stadium. Belle Vue is notorious for fatal injuries to dogs racing there (see http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/2010/04/448602.html ) as well as creating a huge demand for greyhounds to be bred and subsequently disposed of if unsuitable for racing or when their "careers" on the track are over. Venue: Belle Vue Greyhound Stadium Kirkmanshulme Lane Gorton, Manchester M18 7BA By Rail: The Stadium is a couple of minutes walk away from Belle Vue Station, which is served via Manchester and Stockport. By Bus: 201 Manchester - or - 203 Manchester to Stockport - or - 204 Manchester to Hyde.
